Assembly
Flat-pack assembly without the chaos: how to prepare the room
The easiest assembly jobs start with clear floor space, checked parts and a plan for where the finished item will live.
Clear a proper working area
Flat-pack furniture needs more space than the final item. Clear the floor, protect delicate surfaces and keep children and pets away from small fixings. If the item is large, check that the room and doorway can take it once built.
Keep packaging until the job is done
Packaging often protects panels during assembly and contains small parts. Do not throw anything away until the furniture is finished and checked. If parts are missing, the packaging and instructions can help identify them.
Send the product details
If you have a product link or instruction PDF, send it before the visit. A wardrobe with sliding doors, wall anchoring and drawers is a different job from a small desk.
Think about wall anchoring
Tall furniture may need to be secured to a wall, depending on the product and room. That brings wall type, fixings and hidden services into the job. If cables or sockets are nearby, Electrical Safety First guidance is a useful reminder to take care.
Plan what happens to old furniture
If the new item replaces something, decide whether the old one is staying, being moved, reused or recycled. Zero Waste Scotland has useful information on reuse and repair thinking.
